Swedish manufacturing platform enables locally produced design

On February 4, 2020, during Stockholm Design Week, SPOK launches a new national platform that links the design industry and the manufacturing industry in Sweden.

At the Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair, February 4–8, 2020 (stand C18: 21), SPOK will release a new digital platform along with a book about the project. The launch is celebrated with a big launch party on Tuesday, February 4 at Ahouse in Stockholm.

SPOK (Contemporary Production and Consumption) is a production platform that aims to gather and share knowledge about local manufacturing opportunities, from craft to industry. The new digital platform, made with support from The Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth, improves the visibility of local manufacturers, creates encounters and simplifies collaborations between creative industries and other companies across Sweden.

"The fact that SPOK now becomes available throughout Sweden feels like a natural step in the development of the platform. The goal has always been to create opportunities for meetings and to spread knowledge between the manufacturing industry and the design industry. Now designers across the country have the opportunity to work with more local and design driven production", says Anna Gudmundsdottir, project manager SPOK.

”Over the years, we have seen what a positive effect SPOK has had in Skåne, in southern Sweden. Now we have the opportunity to distribute the model across the country which is fantastic”, says Jenny Nordberg, founder and creative leader SPOK.

The new website, which maps the entire country, will highlight local producers and eventually generate business for both innovative companies and the manufacturing industry. The goal of the venture is to spread the platform nationally through a network of self-running, regional hubs that manage the listing of companies locally.
