27–30 May a new international design event premieres in Malmö, focusing on sustainability and innovation. During four days a rich digital programme will be streaming on Southern Sweden Design Days’ website. Parallel to this there will be physical activities happening all over Malmö.
The theme for this year is “1 + 1 = 3”. All programme activities/events, digital and physical, follow this theme with their own equations suggesting solutions to existing and future challenges. Exhibitions, seminars, workshops, performances and open house – visitors can browse the programme at southernswedendesigndays.com and already shape their event experience by bookmarking their favorites.
Southern Sweden Design Days is organised by Form/Design Center – the main venue for architecture, design and crafts in southern Sweden.
The future of work offers freedom and flexibility to work anywhere and anytime. Despite this, we spend 80–90% of our time indoors. Urban Office is the start of a thorough product development that with the help of research and design aims to convince people of the benefits of working outdoors. 24 hour live performance. There is a big gap in the understanding between the technology we use today and technology that will be around us sooner than we think. Artificial intelligence in combination with the expansion of digitalization, automation, and robotization are all examples of ongoing technological development. But at the same pace, as new technology develops, its consequences are also implemented in human culture.

SPOK will showcase a digital series of study visits at local manufacturers. Get inspired by the vast amount of materials, production techniques, colors and textures, and get to know the local craftspeople and manufacturers who produce it.

Green Furniture Concept present two inspirational talks on the theme "Sustainable Design + Public Place = Green Place" that reflects their green concept of placemaking in public spaces and learning environments.

3-hour practical/digital wokshop in Material Driven Design organised by Malmö University. The researchers run the workshop from their lab through Zoom while participants cook bioplastics at home in their kitchen.

Norwegian furniture manufacturer Vestre plans to build the world’s most environmentally friendly furniture factory, The Plus, at Magnor in Norway. The factory, which has been designed by Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), the world-famous Danish firm of architects, will be a global showcase for sustainable and highly efficient production.

“Arts and culture is not the icing on the cake, it is the cake. And the icing. At the same time”. Emil Jensen’s “Grädde på moset” (“the icing on the cake”) will be streamed from Lokstallanra in Malmö. Emil Jensen is an artist, songwriter and poet. He has released seven albums and his “Summer Talk in P1” is among the most acclaimed ever. Emil's live performances are like summer talks on stage, where his song treasure is interspersed with personal small talk, comedy and seriousness, in a completely own mix.

Tingsek will kick off Southern Sweden Design Days’ digital broadcast in SSDD Studio from Lokstallarna in Malmö. Since the early 2000s, Tingsek has given his audience Swedish soul with influences of American tradition. Skåne-born singer, songwriter and producer Magnus Tingsek has recently released his latest album “Home”.

Southern Sweden Design Days reinforces the link between design, architecture and societal development by creating cross-sectoral collaborations and meetings between different disciplines. The event highlight design from a broader perspective and creates an understanding of design as a method for driving development towards a sustainable future.
Form/Design Center is a meeting place, a venue for inspiration and a knowledge hub within architecture and design. At Form/Design Center you can visit exhibitions, our shop and café, or take part in workshops and lectures. Form/Design Center is also a platform for the design industry and a partner in selected development projects. Form/Design Center is run by Svensk Form Syd, a nonprofit organization.
